On the 4th March the Japanese Society of Canterbury celebrated Japan day in Christchurch. The Japanese language students from Avonside Girls High led the opening ceremony with a rousing dance routine. Avonside Girls have taught Japanese for over 40 years and has supported cultural exchanges and school visits through the Kurashiki student goodwill student exchange.
Japan Day in Christchurch is a popular event in the region’s entertainment calendar with an estimated attendance this year of 16,500 people. Check out the photos on their facebook page.
Christchurch-Kurashiki Sister City Committee runs the Kurashiki Student Exchange held every year. The purpose of the programme is to promote friendship and understanding between our two cultures and countries. It gives participants a chance to make real and lasting bond; a great start to positive intercultural relations.
